For some time we were talking about getting a dog. With our summer vacation to Door County, WI only a couple days away, we decided to just stop by the local Humane Society, (Paws and Claws), in Rochester, MN with nothing more in mind than "Just to Look"! After all, we were going on vacation for nearly 2 weeks and--we couldn't possibly adopt a dog! The next thing we knew Sadie was coming home with us and our vacation was happily called off! The Humane Society had twice adopted Sadie out and each time she was returned back within 24 hours because "she had too much energy". We found this a true blessing because Sadie was exactly what we wanted! Apart from being energetic we found Sadie to be exceptionally smart and obedient. Sadie took to Frisbee training immediately and to say she's addicted is an understatement! We quickly got connected with the Minnesota Disc Dog Club and after a few months of practice, we began competing around the area with our club. Sadie came in 2nd in Freestyle only losing to the dog that came in first at the World Championships! She got a 4th in D& A as well. Apart from competing, Sadie has also performed at local charities/events/fundraiser, local camp for abused children, Minnesota Bound ( a MN outdoors TV show), and a Minnesota Viking game, just to name a few. With some extra work in the "off season" we are hoping to qualify for the Worlds next year. Sadie has happily found her place in our home and our hearts. Our Sadie is proof positive of the great potential of shelter dogs!
